I am looking for team members
I am now at the stage where I can ask you, my readers, and anyone else that you feal might be interested, to apply to be part of my World Record Attempt team.
So who am I looking for and for how long?
My personal support team.
2/3 people required.
There will be no lifting involved. I use an electric mobile hoist.
My personal support team will be working in 2's. I am totally human dependent so my personal support team will need to be able to assist my carer who will be with me, in feeding, watering, showing, clothing me and help my carer when needed, and assisting with my toileting. I also need someone to help me during the night as I will need my wee bottle. I usually can call for this help 2 to 3 times on the shift, I also will require pastels during the night as I get a dry mouth. I have been known to sleep right through, but not very often. If I can find 3 people to work this part of the team, all the better, then one person is always on stand down.
Experience in care is not needed as one of my carers will be on hand at all time, so we both can talk people through what is needed. The one question I always get asked is do I mind male carers. The answer is I do not have a problem with that so long as the are a nurse or doctor.
Drivers/Cyclist
For safty reasons I need at least one cyclist to be with me and a driver in a car or van following me. I have a cycle and I am looking at trying to hire an electric van. If you have a car/van and are willing to use it then that would be a great help. Your petrol will be provided during the challenge. I am looking at getting a second van to go on ahead and set up the accommodation for the nights stop so will need a second driver for that.
People to help with fundraising along the route
One of the reasons I am doing this challenge is to raise funds for Arthritis Care. We need as many people as possible to get involved with fund raising. Please contact your local group to see how you can help.
To apply for any of the above post can you please either email me address on the left, or email Vincent Moran <vincentm@arthritiscare.org.uk> for more details and an application form.
You are invited to join any of the teams for any of the days. If you are a cyclist and cycle the whole route with me, you can claim to be an E2E er in your own right. You could get your own sponsorship and add it to the overall fundraising pot.
Please remember I cannot do this challenge without a support team, so please give some thought as to whether you can get involved and get the word out.
All of your food and accommodation will be provided.
This whole challenge is going to be great fun and hard work for us all, but what an event to take part in. I am scared stiff but at the same time very excited and just want to get to the starting line at Lands End. Will you be there with me? I do hope so.
